"The ruler of Dubai has pledged $10bn to establish an education foundation in what is thought to be one of the largest charitable donations in history."
Wowsers. Amazing to see one of these rulers to actually pledge such an unthinkable amount to such a good cause. Though it makes you wonder to whom this cash originally belonged to.

I saw the following app at LifeHacker which can recognize text from almost any language and then translate for you instantly with a measure of accuracy. Only a matter of time before somebody writes an audio extension to this and then we're off to "where no one has gone before ...".
Windows only: We all know that tools like Google Translate and BabelFish are go-to resources for translating a web page, but the catch is always that you need to know what language you're translating from before you can actually translate the text. Freeware application Polyglot 3000 quickly and easily identifies the language of any piece of text.
Just fire it up and paste as much text as you want into the program's text box and hit Recognize language. Polyglot 3000 almost instantly returns one of the 432 languages it can recognize along with the percent accuracy (the more text you give it, the more accurate the recognition will be). Once you've got the language, plug the text and to-from languages into your favorite translator and you're set for translation. Polyglot 3000 is freeware, Windows only.
TechCrunch published today about Scribd coming out private and beta. They've described it as a youtube.com of documents. How can this be exciting to the masses or at the minimum to me, "Popular Documents". A good time waster seeing what other people are doing wasting their time. For example, check the link to this cool document I found on Scribd.
rather than rewrite happenings of FOWA London 07, best post a link to my dear friend Mohamed Nanabhay's blog where he posted his cryptic script of the event quite detail.
Was attending the Future of Web Apps conference in London this week. Coming up shortly will be the cool stuff that was witnessed during the last 3 days.
