I saw the following app at LifeHacker which can recognize text from almost any language and then translate for you instantly with a measure of accuracy. Only a matter of time before somebody writes an audio extension to this and then we're off to "where no one has gone before ...".
Windows only: We all know that tools like Google Translate and BabelFish are go-to resources for translating a web page, but the catch is always that you need to know what language you're translating from before you can actually translate the text. Freeware application Polyglot 3000 quickly and easily identifies the language of any piece of text.
Just fire it up and paste as much text as you want into the program's text box and hit Recognize language. Polyglot 3000 almost instantly returns one of the 432 languages it can recognize along with the percent accuracy (the more text you give it, the more accurate the recognition will be). Once you've got the language, plug the text and to-from languages into your favorite translator and you're set for translation. Polyglot 3000 is freeware, Windows only.
